Legal Counsel – In-house Legal
You will report to the Country Risk Leader and will ensure that legal risks are identified, assessed and appropriate responses are developed and implemented. In addition to legal duties you will be the Data Protection Officer for the KPMG Hungary entities.
Your main tasks are:
- Monitor emerging legal and regulatory developments, support the business functions and central services in analyzing the impact of such and ensure timely actions are taken to respond to new obligations.
- Provide legal support in the application of laws and regulations affecting the operation of the company.
- Give opinion on the company's internal regulations, legal documents and contracts.
- Develop and maintain contract templates and general terms of business.
- Review non-standard contracts and assist teams in negotiating contract terms.
- Review supplier contracts.
- Support client teams in questions of law related to the execution or termination of engagement relationships or when disputes arise.
- Maintain and update GDPR and privacy policies, processes and controls, and coordinates the responses of the firm during privacy audits.
- Provides internal training to increase data protection awareness within the organization.
- Reviews legal, data processing and privacy aspects related to new digital technology solutions.
- Support the preparation and maintenance internal policies and provides input on legal compliance of such.
- Assist in the preparation of responses and submissions to queries from external institutions, authorities and regulators.
- Co-ordinates the involvement of external legal counsel where such is needed.
- Assists in the management of professional indemnity insurance and responding to and managing claims.
- Oversee the Anti-money laundering process to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Oversee the work of junior legal counsel.
- Support the operation of the internal system of quality management.
The following will not be primary areas of focus:
- Employment law
- Corporate compliance and administration
Requirements:
- Legal university degree, bar exam, lawyer practicing certificate, Certificate of good conduct.
- 3-5 years post qualifying (Hungarian bar exam) legal experience spent in a corporate or financial institutional environment.
- Strong Hungarian and English verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to translate legal complexity into language non-legal colleagues can understand.
- Solutions orientated towards commercial implementation of legal requirements.
- An affinity for digital technology and an understanding of the evolving regulatory environment relating to digital technology (e.g. artificial intelligence).
- Proficiency in data protection matters (GDPR) and digital law.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
